SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Black Lives Matter activists in New York are protesting the arrest of an anti-violence advocate who was taken into custody while videotaping two officers frisking a handcuffed motorist.
Maurice Crawley was standing across the street from a traffic stop in Syracuse, streaming the video live on his Facebook page Thursday when one of the officers shouted that if he said "one word," he'd be arrested.
When Crawley asked the officer to repeat himself, the officer strode across the street and placed him under arrest while swearing at him.
The 52-year-old activist pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. His attorney wasn't available for comment.
Police say they're investigating.
A protest outside the jail is underway.
Crawley, the officer and the motorist are all black.
