A spring extravaganza will take place this Friday and Saturday at CM Farms in Dry Creek that will feature an Easter egg hunt, sheep shearing and other exciting games for families to enjoy.
Located just off of La. 113, the 100 acre farm’s fourth annual Wool Days celebration will kick off Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and allow children of all ages to experience what life on a farm is like in the spring. Owners Chuck and Jackie Melsheimer will offer an up close tutorial on sheep shearing as they collect wool from their own flock, and visitors can even create and burn their very own brands onto the wall of the farm’s learning barn.
“It’s our way of recognizing our neighbors and members of the local community, and celebrating the history and culture of rural Louisiana,” Jackie Melsheimer stated.
The farm’s Easter egg hunt will begin at noon both days and will split egg hunters into two age groups as they embark on their mission to find the hidden eggs. After the hunt, visitors will be able to play on the farm’s jumping pillow, watch pig races, shoot candy cannons and visit farm animals in the nearby petting zoo before taking a break at the nearby cafe. In remembrance of Good Friday, Melsheimer said that the weekend’s menu will offer fried fish, along with the farm’s famous homemade fudge and other sweet treats.
“There really is something for everyone here,” she stated. “Families can join us for the day and never stop finding things to do during the whole visit.”
A new addition to this year’s celebration will be a gem mine. According to Melsheimer, children can purchase bags of various sizes to sift through at the farm’s water trough to search out the hidden jewels and treasures inside.
