The semi-annual event Movies Under the Stars will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Prien Lake Park with the 2014 animated comedy “Planes: Fire & Rescue.” Movies Under the Stars continues each Friday in April, and admission to each showing is free. Tom Hoefer, communications and media director for the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, said officials try to choose a variety of family-friendly movies for each showing. “Sometimes we will choose older movies or get creative and find movies that have more of a cult following,” he said. The 2009 film “Sherlock Holmes” will be shown April 10. The movie stars Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. John Watson. April 17 will bring the 2014 animated film “Penguins of Madagascar.” The series will conclude on April 24 with the 2014 animated film “Big Hero 6.” The film earned the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. While moviegoers can bring their own food, they can also buy snacks at the park. They must bring their own lawn chairs or a blanket. The event will be canceled in the event of bad weather. Movies Under the Starts takes place every October and April. The park is at 3700 W. Prien Lake Road. For more information, call the Police Jury at 721-3500. Online: www.cppj.net.
