Undeterred by the massive backlash against Indiana's license-to-discriminate law, the Arkansas House Tuesday afternoon passed its own bill allowing businesses to discriminate against (LGBT) people they object to on religious grounds. Gov. Asa Hutchinson has said all along he plans to sign the law, and hasn't indicated that the Indiana backlash would change his mind, but he's coming under serious pressure, Arkansas-style, not to sign. That's right: Walmart has asked him not to sign the law.
Just watch—the time Walmart is speaking up against discrimination instead of in favor of screwing workers will be the one time an Arkansas official ignores the home-state giant.
The current discrimination bill would be the second passed in Arkansas already in 2015. Previously, the legislature passed a bill prohibiting and striking down local and county anti-discrimination laws. Hutchinson allowed that bill to become law without his signature.
Hutchinson will make a statement late Wednesday morning, described as "likely around 11:30 a.m. Eastern time."
