AEI can be a heady place to work, with unmatched scholarship and weekly visits from newsmakers, cultural icons, and political leaders. But now, the communications team has a brought a whole new meaning to the expression “food for thought.”
AEI’s communications shop is a great and demanding place to work. It is extremely busy, and maintains a close and intense working relationship with other departments, including government relations, development, and policy studies. So like most of Washington’s power circles, once in a while, everyone just needs to blow off some steam.
To embrace competition and ensure that interdepartmental relations remain healthy, the comms shop got a little unhealthy last week by engaging in its very own version of the Food Network’s Cake Wars. Seven teams vied for the title of best designed cake. All the cakes were built on themes AEI values and which make America great, including freedom, global leadership, the pursuit of happiness, and the desire to learn and educate.
As a research institute that holds hundreds of private and public events each year, it’s a requirement that AEI have a top-notch dining and catering team. It also means that the competition of ideas can be traced all the way into the kitchen. Naturally, that means when the cake wars needed judges, who else would AEI call than its very own chefs?
You can see here how it turned out. Sadly, there was no food fight at the end, just plenty of leftover icing and a lot of sugared-up staffers.
Now back to work.
