Elizabeth Jensen says that when an NPR host or correspondent writes a book, many listeners are eagerly interested — but that doesn’t mean the books should be plugged on air. Until now, Jensen says NPR did not have a policy on how to handle staff-written books, but banning them altogether seems to go too far. From now on, NPR will apply the same standard to staff-written books as it does to outside books to determine whether it’s worthy of airtime.
