Given recent turmoil among Republicans in Washington and differences among the GOP’s presidential candidates, it isn’t surprising that the Republican rank-and-file say their party is divided. Seventy-five percent of GOP registered voters gave that response to CBS News/New York Times pollsters in a new poll. In the poll, only 29 percent of this group approved of the way the Republicans in Congress were handling their job. But in another question in the survey, nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of these GOP-ers said they were hopeful about the future of their party. Thirty-four percent said they were discouraged. Very conservative Republicans were more optimistic than moderate Republicans. Time will tell what this means for the 2016 elections.
