2016 Data Point: Enthusiasm and campaign 2016

Voter turnout is always important in presidential campaigns, and one way to measure it is to ask voters how enthusiastic they are about voting in the election. In a new poll from Quinnipiac University, 52 percent of Republican registered voters, compared to 25 percent of Democratic registered voters, said they were more enthusiastic than usual about voting in the 2016 presidential election next year. Thirty-five percent of the Republicans said their level of enthusiasm was about the same. Forty-nine percent of Democrats gave that response. We are still nearly a year away from next year’s election, and these responses will probably change as we get closer. At this early stage, however, the GOP is generating greater excitement among its base.
