On Sunday, President Obama assured the nation that in the fight against ISIS, “we will prevail by being strong and smart, resilient and relentless, and by drawing upon every aspect of American power.”
Except, that is, if Obama’s anti-ISIS strategy conflicts with his environmental ideology.
Gen. Jack Keane has previously reported that, thanks to restrictive rules of engagement designed to prevent any and all civilian casualties, 75% of our air sorties return without dropping their bombs.
Apparently, that is not the only reason for all that unexploded ordnance.
The Daily Caller reports that former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell revealed that, before the Paris attacks, Obama had taken ISIS oil supplies off of the target list out of fear that such strikes would cause environmental damage.
In an interview with Charlie Rose, Morell disclosed that:
This is one of the collateral damage questions. Prior to Paris, there seemed to be a judgment that … look, we don’t want to destroy these oil tankers because that’s infrastructure that’s going to be necessary to support the people when ISIS isn’t there anymore, and it’s going to create environmental damage. And we didn’t go after oil wells — actually hitting oil wells that ISIS controls – because we didn’t want to do environmental damage and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure, right. So now we are hitting oil in trucks. And maybe you get to the point where you say we also have to hit oil wells.”
According to the RAND Corporation, ISIS raked in $1.2 billion – including $100 million from oil. Oil is not the terror network’s only source of revenue. It also brings in hundreds of millions from extortion, taxation, money stolen from Iraqi banks. But to intentionally allow the ISIS oil trade to flourish unabated to the tune of $100 million annually because of environmental concerns is, to paraphrase President Obama, “insane.”
If you want a clue as to why, on Obama’s watch, the Islamic State has grown into the wealthiest, most powerful terrorist network in human history, this is it.
