2016 Data Point: Minds made up in Iowa?

A lot could change between now and February 1, when the Iowa caucuses are held. One indication comes from the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll. The contrasting responses of likely Republican and Democratic Iowa caucus-goers about how strongly they are supporting their candidate are revealing. Seventy-one percent of likely Democratic caucus-goers with a preference for a candidate are strongly committed to their choice. By contrast, 59 percent of likely Republican caucus-goers are. A new Quinnipiac poll in Iowa found that 46 percent of Republicans with a preferred candidate could still change their minds. As in other recent polls, Trump supporters are more likely than supporters of Ted Cruz to say they strongly support their candidate of choice. We will soon find out if they mean it.
