AEI Ed Policy Academy

In August 2016, Rick Hess of AEI’s Education Policy Studies team will hold the third “Education Policy Academy” for graduate students in the social sciences, public policy, business, and law. This summer institute gives promising graduate students an opportunity to explore the contours of current education debates with an intimate group of leading scholars.

Offering a mix of seminars, evening speakers, and cohort-building activities, the program seeks to expand participants’ interest in pressing questions of education policy and provide a firm academic grounding on substantive debates. Academy students will spend three full days in classes taught by leading scholars about topics central to education policy, including school choice, teacher quality, and school finance.

We anticipate that this program will feature the same dynamic, intellectually open, and thought-provoking environment that is a hallmark of AEI Education events and scholarship.

The 2016 Ed Policy Academy will take place in Washington, DC. We will begin on the night of Tuesday, August 2 and will run until Saturday, August 6, 2016.

Who should apply?

We seek to enroll students from a wide range of disciplines, including those studying the social sciences and education as well as those pursuing degrees in public policy, business, and law. Selected students will likely be entering their second or third year of graduate studies and have a vested interest in learning more about education policy from an academic perspective.

Roughly 20 students have been selected to participate in the Academy. All students receive fully funded travel, hotel accommodations, and meals. This is a full-time endeavor. Students will attend multiple class sessions each day and will be expected to join their cohort for dinner in the evening. Keynote guests at each dinner will be drawn from the fields of academia, policy research, and the politics of education reform.
