After getting a tip that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia had died at a resort in West Texas, San Antonio Express-News editor Mike Leary and political editor Gary Martin say they knew they needed two sources to confirm the news. Poynter’s Ben Mullin writes: “In a week or so, nobody might remember that the Express-News broke the story. But everyone would remember if Scalia was still alive and the Express-News inaccurately reported word of his death.”
