A Lake Charles man accused in the stabbing death of his sister has been found competent to stand trial, according to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Ernest Glover, 53, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to a second-degree murder charge Wednesday, said Melissa Sonnier, a spokeswoman for the DA.
Authorities said he killed Barbara Glover Westcott, 50, of Kinder.
Police discovered Westcott’s body in her brother’s Suffolk Manor apartment after responding to a 911 call from Glover on April 4, 2015, officials said.
Glover was initially found incompetent for trial after his arrest, Sonnier said.
Glover was found mentally incompetent to stand trial in 1990 on a 1988 charge of attempted simple arson. But after a stay in a mental institution, he was found competent. Glover eventually pleaded guilty to an amended charge of simple property damage and was ordered to serve six months in jail.
Glover’s trial is set for Dec. 4.
