New manager hired at Sulphur Library

Sulphur native Sheryl Chaisson has always loved the library. She helped out at the LeBlanc Middle School library when she was a student there. She also helped out in her high school library. Then as a student at Rutgers University, she got a job in the music library. Seven years ago, Chaisson started working for the Calcasieu Parish public library system at the Moss Bluff library as a youth services assistant. She was promoted to circulations supervisor and held that position for four years. From there, she moved up to programming coordinator. Recently, she was promoted to branch manager at the Sulphur library.

“I want to get out in the community and really establish a good connection with the Sulphur community.” She said she has seen the community grow immensely over the years. “It’s an exciting time. There’s always something to do.”

Chaisson said the library helps children develop a lifelong love of reading. She said early literacy is extremely important. “We strive to nurture that here.” She said they provide fun activities and create positive experiences with the library in general, but also with reading. “We love trying to find the right book for the right reader no matter what age they are.”

“We are definitely more than books, but books is something that is at our heart.” She said they provide opportunities for lifelong learning through leisure learning activities, services such as access to the internet and resources online 24/7.

Chaisson said the library is working on adding more programs. She said patrons can check their online calendar at http://ift.tt/2bCvtTl.

“I’m definitely excited about the job and excited with all of the new opportunities and possibilites.”
