Train 2 at Sabine Pass to send first cargo shipment

In Cheniere Energy’s most recent construction filing with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, company officials confirmed the first shipment of cargo from Train 2 at Sabine Pass will occur by the end of the month. Officials said the train began producing chilled fuel in late July and is expected to reach substantial completion by the end of September.

The train is one of four at the facility used to cool natural gas to a liquid. Eventually, the $18 billion project will include six liquefaction trains, which will have the ability to export 4 billion cubic feet of LNG per day.

The formal announcement of Train 2’s cargo comes about six months after the company’s first cargo shipment, sent to Brazil. The export was initially delayed for roughly one month due to what officials said were “instrumentation issues.”

The estimated date for substantial completion for Train 3 is June 2017 based on the construction progress. The substantial completion target for Train 4 is August 2017.

The company’s recent FERC filing showed the overall Sabine Pass project moving steadily toward completion. The document details all of the construction work that took place in July.

According to the FERC filing, stages one and two of the project are both at levels of completion close to where Cheniere officials planned. Stage three is the only one beyond its planned completion level at this point in the project.

More than 18,000 jobs are expected during Sabine Pass’ peak construction. The project is expected to have an economic impact during construction of up to $8.4 billion in expanded business sales for the Lake Charles region, according to company officials.
