Boozoo’s Labor Day Festival will be Monday, Sept. 5, at the Knights of Columbus hall, 503 U.S. 90 East in Iowa, La. Doors will open at 10 a.m.; music will start at 11 a.m.
The event began 32 years ago as a backyard party hosted by zydeco musician Wilson “Boozoo” Chavis, who died in 2001. Chavis’ daughter, Margaret Harmon, said the festival has something for everybody.
“That’s the way my daddy always wanted it,” Harmon said. “It was about the children and families getting together.”
Tickets are $15; children 12 and under will be admitted for free. No ice chests or outside drinks will be permitted. A blackpot cook-off will be at 7 a.m.; judging will be at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $50 per two-person team.
The festival will feature plenty of food, Harmon said, including steak sandwiches, crawfish etouffee, red beans and rice, and sweet pies.
The band lineup:
Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band.
Chris Ardoin and Nustep.
Geno Delafosse and French Rockin Boogie.
Wayne and Same Ol 2 Step.
The Doghill Stompers.
