Date set for 2nd annual Stroll and Roll 5K walk

The SWLA Safe Sleep Task Force has set the date for the 2nd annual Stroll & Roll Safe Sleep Awareness 5K and 1 mile walk for Oct. 1 at Pinedarosa Park in Westlake at 8 a.m.

The event begins at the park and winds through The National Golf Course and ends back at the park. Additional parking for the event is available at the ball park, connected to Pinedarosa. Event-day registration begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K begins at 8 a.m. and the 1 Mile Walk begins at 8:05 a.m.

The Stroll & Roll event is held to bring awareness to babies who die in unsafe sleeping conditions, and is held in memory of Kaden Reed, who tragically lost his life due to an unsafe sleeping environment while in the care of a sitter.

Funds raised from the event will be used to purchase small cribs for families who can’t afford a safe place for their infant to sleep. The SWLA Safe Sleep Task Force and the Calcasieu Coroner’s Office provides safe sleep classes to new and expecting parents, caregivers and professionals through their Cribs for Kids?Program. Donations made through the organizations non-profit partner, Community Chest, Inc. are tax-deductible and go toward the purchase of new cribs and safe sleep educational materials.
