DERIDDER — A new time capsule was placed inside of the northeast cornerstone of the historic Beauregard Parish courthouse on Saturday.
The new capsule was filled with items selected by Masons with the DeRidder Masonic Lodge and was supervised by Louisiana Grandmaster Will Phelps Gray.
“This is a very exciting moment,” Gray said.
“We’re preparing to leave something for a future generation that we will know nothing about, and we have no idea what our nation will be like, so we hope to have left a good representation of this time in this area.”
The capsule was filled with items true to the lodge’s traditions, and was also filled with parish information and documentation from the courthouse itself, including minutes from the Police Jury’s meeting to approve the setting of the cornerstone and a new marker alongside of it.
The cornerstone and marker were set into the northeast corner with assistance from courthouse construction workers and 4H Masonry worker Timothy Wells during a special ceremony. Wells said that being able to be a part of the historic event was a proud moment for him.
“This isn’t something that happens every day, you know, and I’m really happy that I got to be a part of it,” he said.
