A Lake Charles woman charged in connection with the July death of her 4-month old son was arraigned Monday in state district court.
Courtney Morris, 25, pled not guilty before Judge Thomas Quirk to one count of second-degree murder.
She was arrested on July 27 after a coroner’s office autopsy report showed that the baby had a blood-alcohol level of 0.0475. The autopsy was part of a routine sudden infant death investigation conducted after Lake Charles police received a call July 14 about a dead infant at a Fox Run Drive apartment. The child had been found lying face down but had no signs of injuries, said Chief Don Dixon at the time.
On July 29, police also arrested the baby’s father, Larry Champ, 40, along with Danielle Elizabeth Allen, 23, in connection to the child’s death.
In September, Morris and Champ were both indicted for second degree murder while Allen was indicted on a charge of accessory after the fact.
Champ pled not guilty to second-degree murder Oct. 3, and his pre-trial conference was set for Jan. 10, 2017. He is being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a $500,000 bond.
Allen plead not guilty to the accessory after the fact charge Oct. 17. Her pre-trial conference is set for Feb. 7, 2017.
Judge Quirk set Morris’ pre-trial conference for Jan. 10, 2017. She is in custody at the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a $800,000 bond.
