Barbe remained unbeaten with yet another dominant performance as the Lady Bucs defeated North Central 76-32 at St. Louis Friday on the second day of the Lakeside Bank Ladies Winter Classic.
Brandi Williams and Ashlyn Poole combined for 33 points as Barbe (7-0) won its seventh in a row to start the season.
“I felt like (Thursday against St. Louis) we came out a little sluggish,” said Barbe head coach Kelly Durio. “Today we definitely had a better effort. We were just moving the ball so well on offense. The score shows the results of that.”
The Bucs are off to one of the best starts in the program’s history. The only one better was last season when they opened the season with 12 consecutive victories. Despite losing point guard Aeriyl Mass to graduation, the Bucs have moved the ball efficiently and effectively.
Barbe has had little issue making the extra pass and finding an open man both in transition and in the half court.
“We just felt that, against zones especially, we weren’t doing a good job of moving the ball well,” Durio said. “Today, we did a good job of balancing inside and out.”
The Hurricanes (6-2) were led by Frandelca Kelly with 11 points and Latoya Taylor with 10 points.
Barbe will play Houma Christian at 10:30 a.m. today in its final game of the tournament.
“They’re a really athletic team, so we have to be ready to defend,” Durio said.

St. Louis bounced back from its Thursday night loss to Barbe.
The Saints (4-3) steadily extended their lead against the Trail Blazers (2-4) from start to finish, winning their first game since losing star guard Alexandria Goodly to injury.
“We needed a confidence booster like that, especially coming off a game against Barbe, who is a very good ballclub,” said St. Louis head coach Tony Johnson. “Tonight we came out and rebounded well and pushed the ball up the floor. Our press was working for us tonight.”
St. Louis was led by Elisia Smith with 14 points and Sierra Britton, who added 10 points.
Lake Charles College Prep’s Kayla Dodd led the Trail Blazers with a game-high 19 points.
The Saints will return for the tournament finale against St. Mary’s Academy at 6 p.m. today. The Trail Blazers will take on LaGrange at 9 a.m. in the first game of the day.
