Celebrate the New Year local style

Finish up that list of New Year’s resolutions, put on your fancy duds, get out some noisemakers, and prepare to ring in 2017 as the clock winds down to a brand new year.

Here’s a round-up of events taking place on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, at local casinos:

Isle of Capri Casino Hotel

Head to the Lone Wolf entertainment venue at the Isle of Capri and prepare to be captivated by the group Bag of Donuts. The New Orleans-based quartet, with its flair for Kabuki makeup and flamboyant costumes, has been entertaining for 30 years. The band mainly covers songs in a style it has dubbed Superpop: Any song popular from any era. The concert begins at 9 p.m. and is free.

L’Auberge Casino Resort

The party starts rocking at 8 p.m. at Jack Daniel’s Bar & Grill and includes a special midnight celebration. Each year brings a different New Year’s Eve theme at this venue and this year it’s all things Ninja with music provided by Dj Paws Teh Cat. Cover charge is $25 and patrons must be 21 or older to enter. “It’s going to be quite the event,” said Kerry Andersen, director of public relations for Pinnacle Entertainment. “We throw the best New Year’s Eve party in town. It will be a very fun night and a huge New Year’s Eve bash. In addition to the Jack Daniel’s Bar & Grill event, we’ll also have a solo guitarist, Mason Seduccia, playing in the L Bar from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and a special champagne celebration at midnight. Also, throughout the property on New Year’s Eve, we’ll be passing out party favors and pouring champagne on the casino floor.”

Golden Nugget Lake Charles

Live entertainment from Frankie Moreno, starting at 10:30 p.m., will keep things hopping. Moreno will perform original songs and favorite classics from Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, Elvis, and more at the Blue Martini venue. Moreno was twice voted “Las Vegas Headliner of the Year.” Advance tickets, $55, through Ticketmaster; $80 at the door. “Golden Nugget and Blue Martini are proud to feature Frankie Moreno,” said Ron Richey, director of entertainment at Golden Nugget. “After our champagne toast, our resident Blue Martini DJ, DJ Jose Mata, will take the Blue Martini stage to keep guests dancing all night long.”

Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel

Grand Funk Railroad will kick things into high gear at 11 p.m. at the Delta Event Center. Known for iconic hits such as “The Loco-Motion” and “Walk Like a Man,” this 70s arena band released more than a dozen albums and sold 25 million records worldwide. Space is limited.
