DeRidder man leads authorities on high speed chase into Texas

A DeRidder man wanted for violation of probation led authorities from multiple agencies on a high-speed chase that ended in Newton County, Texas, Thursday morning.

According to Police Chief John Gott, a Crimestoppers tip led officers to the whereabouts of 24 year-old Travis Leroy Joubert. In an attempt to serve him with the warrant for his arrest, Joubert fled in his vehicle north on Pine Street and then back south, eventually cutting across Bilbo Street before traveling along La. 190 and across state lines into Texas.

Joubert was arrested a short time later by Texas authorities in Newton County and is expected to be extradited back to Beauregard Parish.

“This was the product of a citizen using our Crimestoppers program and giving our officers credible information that ultimately led to this man’s arrest,” Gott stated. “We are grateful that no one was injured, and we are very pleased to have had the cooperation from members of the public in this investigation.”

The chase involved units from DeRidder police, Merryville police and the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office. During the initial pursuit, Joubert damaged one DeRidder police officer’s vehicle, but Gott stated that there were no injuries from the chase.

Authorities are still searching for Dustin Wade Causey, 27, also for violation of probation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 337-462-8918.
