State police find nearly $500,000 of cocaine in traffic stop

HAMMOND -- Louisiana State Police say they found nearly $500,000 worth of cocaine during a traffic stop on Interstate 12 near Hammond.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports that the drug bust happened Wednesday, when troopers and a police dog found the cocaine after pulling over a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

State police said officers asked to search the vehicle, and then found about 16.3 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $464,550.

Authorities said Maria Delores Daniel and her passenger, Julio Cesar Cisneros, were both booked into the Tangipahoa Parish jail on charges of cocaine possession. It wasn't known early Thursday whether the suspects have attorneys who could be reached for comment.
