A single-vehicle crash on I-10, two miles west of Sulphur, early Saturday morning resulted in the death of 61-year-old Burkman Clyde Cole of Kinder. Cole was driving a 1992 Toyota Camry at the time of the crash.
Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the accident about 1 a.m.
Police say a preliminary investigation revealed a passenger car was traveling west on I-10 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway. The vehicle then struck a culvert and rolled over several times before coming to rest on its side against several trees.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a seat belt. No one else was in the vehicle.
A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop D has investigated 3 fatal crashes resulting in 6 deaths this year.
