A 31-year-old man indicted Thursday for the 2003 second-degree murder of a 15-year-old Lake Charles girl is in custody, authorities said.
McKartney Young, a suspect in the death of Misty Lynn Guillory, turned himself in to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, said Lake Charles police Lt. Richard Harrell. A warrant was issued for Young’s arrest Thursday after the indictment. Young was declared a fugitive later that day.
Guillory’s body was discovered by a motorist in the 4200 block of East Prien Lake Road after 2 a.m. on Aug. 21, 2003. Authorities said she died of blunt-force trauma after Young ran her over with a vehicle. She was fleeing from Young after he tried to sexually assault her, police said.
Young was arrested for the crime in November 2003 and was indicted on a second-degree murder charge. But the charge was dismissed in January 2006 due to what the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office said were conflicting witness statements.
The D.A.’s Office reopened the case in 2016 after obtaining additional evidence, resulting in the recent indictment.
