Cowgirls win at Sam Houston St.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Seniors Amber Donnes and Victoria Rachal combined to score 37 points Thursday as McNeese State snapped a two-game losing streak with a 61-58 Southland Conference basketball victory over Sam Houston State.

Donnes scored a game high and tied her career high with 21 points. Rachal chipped in with 16 points.

Frederica Haywood continued her consistent rebounding, ending with a game-high 13 rebounds, for the Cowgirls (13-15, 8-9 SLC), who close out the regular season against Lamar at 1 p.m. Saturday at Burton Coliseum.

Lydia Baxter set a career-high with 18 points for Sam Houston State (3-24, 3-14), which has lost four of its last five. Jenniffer Oramas matched a season high with 20 points.

Cowboys

Dakarai Henderson scored 16 points and Sam Houston State handed McNeese State its seventh consecutive loss, 79-74 Thursday night in a Southland Conference game.

Kalob Ledoux and Stephen Ugochukwu each scored 17 points to lead McNeese (7-21, 4-13). Henderson dealt the final blow with a 3-pointer with just over a minute to play to put the Bearkats up 76-70.

Chris Galbreath added 12 and Paul Baxter 11 for the Bearkats.

Jarren Greenwood added 11 points for the Cowboys while Jamaya Burr scored 10. Ugochukwu led the team with nine rebounds.

The Cowboys will close out the season at home against Lamar at 3 p.m. Saturday.
