Early voting begins Saturday

Early voting for the March 25 election begins Saturday. Ballot highlights include municipal elections in Lake Charles, Vinton and Jennings, along with special aldermen elections in Elton and Fenton.

In Allen Parish, three candidates are vying for 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal judge to replace James “Jimmy” Genovese, who was elected to the state Supreme Court in November.

Westlake voters will decide on separate sales tax renewals for the fire and police departments, as well as public parks and recreation.

There are no elections in Beauregard, Cameron or Vernon parishes.

Voters can cast ballots 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. March 11-18, except Sunday, at voter registrar offices and designated locations.

In Calcasieu Parish, voting will be in the parish courthouse, 1000 Ryan St., and the West Calcasieu Business Center, 500 A N. Huntington St. in Sulphur.

The Moss Bluff Library won’t be open for early voting for this election.

Voters should bring a valid driver’s license, a Louisiana special ID, or some other generally recognized picture ID that contains a name and signature. Voters without a picture ID must sign an affidavit to vote.

Westlake

Renewal of a 10-year, one-cent sales tax for fire department, sewage facility and public park maintenance and to supplement the cost of salaries and benefits for employees and fund bonds for capital improvement projects. The tax will generate $1 million a year.

Renewal of a 10-year, half-cent sales tax for police department operations and to fund bonds for capital improvements. It will generate $500,000 annually.

Jeff Davis Parish

Jennings mayor: Dusty Chaisson; Jimmy Segura; Henry Guinn; Marcus O. Peterson; and Patsy Metcalf Richard.

Jennings Council District E: Stevie Van Hook and Elijah W. Marceaux.

Elton alderman: Kesia Lemoine and Marilynn Broussard Granger.
