The 1980s singer-songwriter who brought us “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Baby Hold On” and “Think I’m in Love” will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Golden Nugget Casino’s grand event center.
With more than a dozen chart-topping songs — and a name that’s hard to forget — Eddie Money has managed to stay relevant throughout his decades-long career, earning a reputation for his quick wit and freewheeling personality.
Becoming sober late in life has enabled him to focus on his music and making people laugh, Money said, although he admits it isn’t easy.
“When I tell people I stopped drinking, everybody’s happy but me,” he said with a laugh.
Money, 67, said even after all these years the thrill of live performance hasn’t gotten old.
“When they listen to my music, since my voice is holding up and the band sounds great, it brings them back to a certain time in their life when things were different.”
He considers each performance a “gift,” he said, and feels blessed to have the opportunity to continue touring.
He said those who attend Friday’s show can expect to hear all his biggest hits. Each song flows into the next, he said, and they’re all about the same thing: women.
“Women make the world go round. I would have never joined a rock band if I wasn’t in love with them.”
He said he’s excited about seeing old friends from the Lake Charles area and eating some classic Louisiana dishes.
“I like that Cajun cooking, the turnip greens and the hush puppies. I don’t know about eating the heads on those crawdaddies, but you know how that is.”
He said Lake Charles is “a great little rock ’n’ roll town” he always enjoys visiting.
“I wish I was doing two shows Friday night.”
