Fatal pedestrian hit-and-run in Jennings

JENNINGS — A pedestrian was killed late Monday or early Tuesday when they were struck in a hit-and-run at the La. 97 overpass, police said.

Police were called to the scene around 6 a.m. Tuesday after someone reported seeing a body lying on La. 97, said Deputy Chief Danny Semmes.

Officers arrived at the scene and located a body off to the side, Semmes said.

"The preliminary evidence leans toward a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the early morning hours," Semmes said.

Police believe the pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was walking down La. 97 heading toward Evangeline when they were struck by a vehicle.

Police are still searching for the vehicle, Semmes said.

Anyone who may have been traveling LA 97 between 10:30 p.m. Monday and 2 a.m. Tuesday and saw someone walking down the road to contact the Jennings Police Department at 821-5513 or Crime Stoppers at 275-9002.
