In Sulphur: Couple dies in house fire

Two people died Wednesday in an early-morning fire that destroyed a home at 2426 Jett St. in Sulphur, authorities said.

The victims were identified as Arlan Barrilleaux, 69, and wife Dianne, 58. Three of the couple’s four dogs died as well, officials said.

The Sulphur Fire Department received the alarm at about 2:20 a.m., and the structure was engulfed in flames when crews arrived about two minutes later, said Mitchell Rausch, department spokesman.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze between 4:30 and 5 a.m., Rausch said.

State Fire Marshal’s Office Deputy Chief Brant Thompson said the fire was caused by a pot left unattended on the stove.

Preliminary blood samples indicate smoke inhalation caused the couple’s death.
