Local leaders will join dignitaries across the state today in signing a pledge to lead the fight against litter and participating in street cleanups as part of Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s annual spring event.
Volunteers will pick up trash along 12th Street between Enterprise Boulevard and Hodges Street 8:30-11 a.m., starting at the parking lot of Kroger, 600 12th Street. The event will close with an address by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser at 2 p.m.
Esther Vincent, the city of Lake Charles’ interim liaison with Team Green, said the purpose of the event is to remind local leaders to push for litter reduction in their communities.
“These leaders will be teachers, teaching our children how to protect the environment,” Vincent said.
On Saturday, residents can drop off unwanted electronic items 8-11 a.m. at Stine Home and Yard, 2950 Ruth St. in Sulphur, during E-Recycle Day. Citgo sponsors the event each year, and Lake Charles and Sulphur take turns hosting it.
Blake Trahan, Team Green director, said the two weekend events are part of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup, a period from March to the end of May during which communities nationwide hold cleanup and advocacy events.
