JENNINGS — An Evangeline man involved in a hit-and-run that killed a 34-year-old Jennings woman was arrested Saturday, authorities said.
Christopher J. Bergeaux, 54, of Pecan Drive, was charged with felony hit-and-run, failure to report an accident and obstruction of justice. More charges could be added once the Jeff Davis District Attorney’s Office reviews the case, officials said.
Police said Bergeaux struck Alesia Renee Dietz with his a 2001 Chevrolet Impala as she was walking along the overpass on La. 97, just northeast of Jennings, late Monday or early Tuesday.
Bergeaux was arrested after Jennings police received information from the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office about a damaged vehicle, Police Chief Todd D’Albor said.
“Detectives with the Jennings Police Department were able to go to the location of this vehicle and were able to determine that this vehicle was in fact the vehicle that struck the pedestrian,” D’Albor said in a news release.
Dietz died at the scene.
