Beauregard Parish veterans are encouraged to submit their names and photographs for a display to be held next month at the Real Art Gallery in DeRidder.
Gallery spokeswoman Sharon Harris said that while only a few photos have been submitted to the gallery so far, she is hoping more will follow to accompany the gallery’s exhibit featuring local veteran Eric Nyros.
The Memorial Day-themed display is the brain child of Beauregard Police Juror Carlos Archield, who said he was looking for a way to pay tribute to area veterans.
“It is something that has never been done here before, and I just thought it would be a really great way to pay homage to our own veterans and draw some deserved attention to them from the public,”Archield said.
“I was very pleased that the gallery was willing to allow us to do this, and I just encourage all veterans and the families of those who are deceased to participate in this so that we can make it something really impressive.”
To participate, veterans or their family members are asked to bring a framed 8-by-10 photograph from their service years to the gallery, at 108 West First St. The photograph should be accompanied by the service member’s full name, unit and years of service.
