La. Choral Foundation to present concerts

The spring concert for Masterworks Chorale of the Louisiana Choral Foundation is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 812 Kirkman St.

The performance will feature “Mass of the Children,” written by English composer John Rutter. The five-movement composition premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2003. Les Petites Voix, described on the chorale foundation’s website as “Lake Charles’s children’s community choir,” will also be featured during the concert. The choir, directed by Kari Proksch, features singers ranging from grades 4-12.

Also singing are female treble members from the St. Louis High School choir, directed by Pam LeBlanc.

Cheryl Gott, board member for the Louisiana Choral Foundation, said Darrel Jones, artistic director for the Masterworks Chorale, chose Rutter’s piece because he wanted to feature children’s voices.

“It’s the perfect medium for that,” Gott said.

Gott said the performance will also feature soloists Kenneth Espree (baritone) and Carolyn Hasty (soprano). After the mass, she said Les Petites Voix will be sing some of their own selections.

Tickets are $15 for adults and free for children and students with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased at Swicegood Music, 308 E. Prien Lake Rd., or at the door.
