A good FBI director might be someone who has long experience with the agency or elsewhere in the intelligence community. It could be a particularly effective administrator from elsewhere in law enforcement. The applicant should be familiar with managing large organizations. Should be capable of working under pressure. Should be less interested in seeing his face on television than in getting things done.
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman is President Donald Trump's top pick to be nominated as FBI director, Trump said Thursday.
Speaking to reporters while meeting with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, Trump said he is "very close" to choosing a new FBI director to replace James Comey. And asked if Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-independent senator from Connecticut was his top pick, Trump said yes.
Because Lieberman has no experience running a large organization, no experience in law enforcement, and at 75 seems like the least probable candidate imaginable to sign up for a 10-year stint as FBI director.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for incompetence, bias, and general inability to slot crime A onto suspect B, Lieberman is a top notch candidate. Plus, as a very special bonus, he works for the same law firm as Trump’s personal lawyer.
Trump met with Lieberman Wednesday and found him "agreeable," a source said.
In other words, that personal pledge to protect Trump above all else? Not a problem for Joe.
