HOUMA -- An 83-year-old man has been found guilty of sexual battery of a 7-year-old more than 30 years ago.
The Courier reports a jury Friday unanimously found Warren Danos of Larose guilty of assaults that occurred between 1984 and 1986. Danos was originally charged with aggravated rape.
The victim, now 39, said in her testimony the assaults started when she was 7. She reported them to police in 2014. Two additional women testified that Danos molested them, though the statute of limitations had expired.
Defense attorney Matthew Ory argued there were inconsistencies in the victims' statements.
First Assistant District Attorney Kristine Russell says they knew this would be a difficult case, but wanted the victims to have their day in court.
Danos will be sentenced June 20.
