Mike Pence Reportedly Hosting White House Cinco De Mayo Party; Internet Reacts Accordingly

Considering the terrible things that President Donald Trump has said about Mexicans, it wouldn’t be surprising if the White House decided not to host its annual party celebrating a Mexican military victory.

But according to Politico, the White House plans to hold its Cinco de Mayo bash on Thursday, one day before the actual holiday.

Trump won’t be attending, though. He’s heading to New York, where Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will join him aboard the USS Intrepid for an event marking the Battle of the Coral Sea.

Instead of Trump, Vice President Mike Pence reportedly plans to host the party in the Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

It’s probably just as well, considering some of the most complimentary things Trump has said about Mexicans are an off-hand remark that “some, I assume, are good people” when he announced his presidential bid and a tweet on Cinco de Mayo last year praising the taco salad at Trump Tower.

Pence’s bland image, and the fact he comes from Indiana, led Raw Story to call the event “Cinco de Mayonnaise.”

And, of course, the internet chimed in hilariously about the party and Trump’s absence.

But at least one person wanted to join the festivities.
