Instead of just focusing on one issue, movie, or TV show, let’s open up the floor and ask a question. If a friend asked for a recommendation of a movie or TV show, what would you tell them? What should people try giving a chance? What should they avoid like the plague? Here are a few suggestions along with some quick reviews of recent shows and movies that might be worth taking a look at. But maybe we can go a little deeper.
Within film, music, television, etc., there exists the cult classic. It's usually a work that wasn't particularly successful when it was originally released, but found a small yet loyal audience which appreciated it, keeping its memory alive in pop culture.
But what if there is no cult? What if there's just a lonely contrarian out there? Everyone has a "guilty pleasure"—a movie, song, book, etc., which everyone else might think is pure unadulterated crap, but they love regardless. And most people have the inverse of the guilty pleasure: the work that you just can't stand but all your friends and family love the hell out of.
We’ve had some fun with these questions in the past, so for this Fourth of July, what are those things that you like, but no one else seems to? Or conversely, what are those works that everyone seems to love, but you just don't get?
