Four years ago, yoga instructor Lisa Tauzin was on a mission to combine one of her favorite activities, yoga, with one of her favorite outdoor spaces, Prien Lake Park. Her efforts resulted in a group of around 10 like-minded friends practicing yoga outside on a chilly Good Friday morning on the Prien Lake Park peninsula. It was a hit, and has become an annual event.
“I thought Good Friday was a good day to do this because a lot of people were off of work,” said Tauzin.
This year, the fourth annual Good Friday Yoga/Tai Chi event will take place at 9 a.m. April 14 in the Village Square at Morganfield. This outdoor practice session is free and open to the public.
Tauzin chose to hold the event at Morganfield in east Lake Charles to help showcase the new development.
“Morganfield is in its infant stage, but already has a very nice little pulse to it. Plus we have a very enthusiastic and growing yoga community in Lake Charles, so combining both seemed natural,” said Tauzin.
Yoga instructor Tiffany Boudreaux will lead a sun salutation, to be immediately followed by the tai chi practice around 9:45 a.m. lead by instructor Phyllis LeJeune.
The entire event will last about an hour and 15 minutes.
Participants should arrive no later than 8:50 a.m. to get settled in and should wear comfortable clothing that they can easily stretch in. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or blanket and, if desired, water to drink.
Beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend, said Tauzin, referring to the event as “the ultimate no judgement zone.”
In the event of rain, the event will be cancelled.

To get to the Village Square at Morganfield from the intersection of East McNeese Street and La. 14, cross La. 14 continuing east on East McNeese Street.
Drive about 1.2 miles to the roundabout. Stay left around the roundabout, taking the third spinoff. You’ll be heading north. Take the first left at Advent Court, and you are there.
