The Lake Charles Little Theatre will present “Pump Boys and Dinettes” — a musical about the relationship between gas station workers and the waitresses in a diner next door — at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 14-15.
Director Michael Parker, a native of Lake Charles who recently moved back to the area, said he has enjoyed directing a musical in his hometown.
Parker worked in Dallas as a high school choir director for 41 years before coming back home a year and a half ago.
He performed in Little Theatre’s “Nunsense II: The Second Coming” and “90 Years in Review” before being elected to the LCLT board of directors.
Parker said the audience can look forward to a diverse selection of music and instruments. He said the score has elements of rock ’n’ roll, rockabilly, gospel and country.
“It’s a full-blown musical with 21 songs, and everybody on stage plays instruments,” Parker said. “There’s something for everybody.”
Little Theatre Board President Randy Partin, who plays one of the Pump Boys in the musical, said the best part of the production for him has been getting to work in the show’s unique set.
“The stage and set are incredible. It makes it really easy to go into character,” Partin said.
“Once you put that pump worker shirt on with the name on it and walk on stage, you almost want to work on a car. It really sets the mood.”
Performances will also be April 20-23 and April 28-30. Tickets are $10 for students, $20 for adults and $15 for senior citizens.
Tickets can be purchased at www.thelclt.com or by calling 433-7988.
