Sulphur city employee arrested

SULPHUR — A city employee in Sulphur has been arrested on charges of theft under $750 and unauthorized use of an access card, said Mayor Chris Duncan. Duncan said Kody Martin, 20, of Moss Bluff, was arrested Tuesday by Sulphur police and that Martin’s employment has been terminated.

He said Martin used another employee’s five-digit access code — obtained during work to fuel equipment — to make multiple purchases, two of which were flagged by the accounting department as being suspicious because they originated in Moss Bluff.

Duncan said the employee to whom the access code belonged was questioned and found unaware of the purchases.

“We contacted the fuel company and sent detectives to the gas station in Moss Bluff to review tapes,” Duncan said. “We don’t take this lightly. This is taxpayers’ money, and we expect to get restitution. We have an obligation to get that money back.”
