A look at how iOS ad blockers will change the mobile web

When iOS 9 is released with mobile ad blockers, the mobile web as we know it is going to change, Owen Williams writes. Williams has been trying out Crystal, an experimental mobile ad blocker, and he’s found that it drastically reduces page load times on mobile. Williams provides previews of news websites loading with and without Crystal. For Bloomberg and The Verge, the page loaded with Crystal is finished loading before the page with advertising even shows on the screen. Williams writes: “The effect of using a content blocker on iOS is, to be honest, something publishers should be deeply afraid of. I don’t really care about advertising actually appearing on sites, I just care about how fast the site itself loads over a constrained connection.”
