Welcome our new summer fellow, Kasia Kovacs

This week, we’re excited to welcome our new summer fellow, Kasia Kovacs.

Kasia is a master’s student at the University of Missouri, studying news reporting with a focus on investigative reporting. She is expected to graduate in December 2016. Kasia also holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and critical theory from William Jewell College.

While studying at the University of Missouri, Kasia served as a state government and higher education reporter for the Columbia Missourian and was the lead reporter covering the protests on Missouri’s campus in the fall of 2015. In 2016, Kasia was named Student Writer of the Year by the Great Plains Journalism Awards. Kasia also served as the editorial associate for Investigative Reporters and Editors. Kasia is particularly interested in building relationships and engaging marginalized communities and the intersection between narrative journalism and investigative reporting.

Kasia will be working on a range of projects for API in addition to a project of her own. Her proposed project is related to the tools for long-form journalism and how people engage with long-form journalism.

API’s summer fellows have the opportunity to work on existing efforts in addition to contributing a project of their own. If you’re interested in API’s summer fellowship for 2017, you can learn more about the program here and sign up to be notified when applications open.

If you’re interested in the topic Kasia will be working on at API or have ideas about it, she can be reached by email at kasia.kovacs@pressinstitute.org. You can also follow Kasia on Twitter at @KasiaKovacs.
