The mother of a 4-month-old child who died earlier this month has been charged with second-degree murder, and police are looking for the child’s father, who will also be charged, Lake Charles police said.
Courtney D. Morris, 25, was arrested Wednesday, and officers are searching for Larry Champ, 40, who “knows we’re looking for him,” Police Chief Don Dixon said Thursday.
“This is a sad day,” he said. “We’re dealing with a horrific crime.”
Police received a call July 14 about a dead infant who was lying facedown, Dixon said. The child had no signs of injuries, he said.
The Coroner’s Office did a routine sudden infant death investigation, performed an autopsy and submitted blood samples for analysis, Dixon said. The lab report, which came back Wednesday, showed that the baby had a blood-alcohol level of 0.0475, he said.
Anyone with information on Champ’s whereabouts can call police at 491-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 439-2222.
