JAMBOREE: Vinton stops East Beauregard

SULPHUR — The Vinton Lions controlled the game from start to finish on Thursday to beat East Beauregard 26-8 at the SPOT?Therapy/Billy Navarre Chevrolet Jamboree.

The game was delayed by more than an hour and a half of because of a severe thunderstorm that passed over Matt Walker Memorial?Stadium.

Vinton gained 208 yards on the ground with senior Lucas Cormier leading the way with 95 yards on nine carries. Junior Tony St. Julien rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Vinton limited East Beauregard to 10 yards on its first drive and senior defensive lineman Darrius Allen recorded two tackles for a loss.

The Lions got on the board with 6:30 left in the first half on a 2-yard run by St. Julien. Junior Trevon Tillman added a 31-yard touchdown less than 6 minutes later. Both of Vinton’s second-half touchdowns came on passes. Dalen Guillory threw a 1-yard touchdown to Cormier and a 24-yarder to a wide-open St. Julien.

East Beauregard struggled in the first half, gaining one first down. The Trojans fared better in the second half when M.J. Williams capped a four-play, 51-yard drive with a 28-yard touchdown. Zach Doucet scored the 2-point conversion with 5:33 left in the second half.

Williams was the Trojans’ top rusher with five carries for 49 yards.

Two other games, Sam Houston vs. Jennings and St. Louis vs. Washington-Marion, finished after press time.
