Louisiana 1 Flood Relief concert to be held Sunday at the Civic Center

Local musician Sean Ardoin said with the flooding all over Louisiana, he wanted to do something to help. Things came to a head on Aug. 17 when Ardoin couldn’t sleep and the idea for the Louisiana1 Flood Relief Concert to raise donations was formed.

At 4 a.m. Ardoin wrote down his idea and soon after began contacting other musicians to ask them about joining the concert. He received “yes” after “yes” from the bands and from local law enforcement agencies.

“They all had (August) 28th open,” Ardoin said. “In two days a major event was put together.”

The Louisiana1 Flood Relief Concert will be held Sunday, Aug. 28 from 1-10 p.m. at the Lake Charles Civic Center. This “party with a purpose,” as Ardoin called it, will benefit multiple organizations, including United Way of Southwest Louisiana, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and MusicCares. Everything collected from ticket sales and other donations will go straight to helping people on the ground through these organizations, Ardoin said.

Adult tickets are $20, and those 17-13 years are $10. Children who are 12 and under get in free. Tickets will be available the day of the concert at the door; there are no presales.

Ardoin called the city response to the concert “overwhelming” and said people from all over the southwest Louisiana area have asked to be involved.

“I love my city, the people in my city, and I’m extremely proud of my city and with their response,” Ardoin said.

His goal for Sunday’s concert is to raise $500,000. “This is something ridiculous that only God can make happen,” he explained.

When writing checks for donations, make payable to United Way and include in the memo line: Louisiana1 Flood Relief Concert.
