HOLMWOOD — The section of La. 14 from La. 27 to Lognion Road in southeastern Calcasieu Parish was officially dedicated Wednesday as the Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent Memorial Highway.
The late trooper’s son, Ethan Vincent, 10, unveiled the highway’s sign during a ceremony at the La. 14-La. 27 intersection.
“Even though (Vincent) is not here, he is still guarding this highway,” said state police Col. Mike Edmonson. “He is still out there.”
Edmonson said the sign would be “an indication as to who Steven was and who he still is in all of our hearts” for those who drive past it.
Vincent, 44, was shot in the line of duty on Aug. 23, 2015, and died the next day. Fruge Road, where the shooting occurred, intersects with the dedicated roadway.
State Sen. Dan “Blade” Morrish, R-Jennings, sponsored the legislation that dedicated the highway. It was signed into law in April — the first bill signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards.
