Badon, released last month, arrested for parole violation

The man involved in the April 2011 shooting death of Stephin Bergeron, 20, in Carlyss was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on Thursday for violating his parole.

Devin Badon, 24, had been released from prison Aug. 13 after serving time for negligent homicide. He pleaded guilty in June 2012 to helping Bergeron’s killer, David “Dice” Fontenot, obtain bullets and a gun.

Charles Finkley, administrator for the Lake Charles probation and parole office, said Badon had failed to report to his parole officer after being released. Finkley said his office is looking into reports that Badon had made trips to Chicago and Los Angeles without permission. The Los Angeles trip purportedly involved a taping of the “Dr. Phil” show.

“That is the information we have heard, but we have to verify it,” he said. “We are in the process of doing that.”

Finkley said the Parole Board will meet to “decide on what additional actions should be taken” with Badon after his office completes its investigation and forwards the information.

Badon, he said, will continue to remain incarcerated “until the Parole Board decides it is feasible for him to post bond.”

“They have complete authority over his case because he is on supervision through the state,” Finkley said.

He said Badon’s parole was originally slated to end on June 21, 2019.
