A standoff with Lake Charles police on Lakeshore Drive on Friday ended peacefully and with the rescue of a child, said Deputy Chief Mark Kraus.
Kraus said a welfare concern call became a vehicle pursuit that ended near the Interstate 10 bridge. He said a man and woman in the vehicle refused to cooperate with officers.
Kraus said that as police engaged the couple during the standoff, an officer reached into the vehicle and rescued a child. The incident ended without injuries, he said.
“From my vantage point, our men acted as they do every single day on every single call — in a heroic manner,” Kraus said. “And that has once again impressed us as police administration.”
Allen Palmero, 35, and Kelli Palmero, 35, both of Maurice, were charged with aggravated flight from an officer, according to booking records.
