The McNeese State volleyball team play in its second tournament, this time it’s the Ole Miss Rebel Invitational, today and Saturday.
McNeese (1-3) will play North Carolina State (2-2) at 3 p.m. this afternoon. The Cowgirls will play Ole Miss (3-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by Texas-Arlington (2-2) at 5 p.m.
Freshman Keegan Nelms leads the team with 41 kills, six aces while senior Rebecca Korenek has 29 kills. Freshman Hailey Schneider leads with 13 blocks.
Soccer team visits Southern U.
The McNeese State women’s soccer team will visit Southern University at 6 p.m. today.
Junior forward Savannah LaRicci leads the Cowgirls (2-0) with two goals.
Nicholls State beat the Jaguars 8-0. The Jags return three seniors from last year’s 2-15 team.
Cross country hosts opening meet
McNeese State’s cross country teams will host the McNeese Relay today at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex.
McNeese’s teams, ranked eighth in the region on the men’s side and 12th on the women’s, will host men’s and women’s squads from LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, Northwestern State and Texas Southern.
The race is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
The Cowboys return eight runners from last year’s team that placed third at the Southland Conference championships and are led by junior Nathan Jones, who earned all-SLC honors.
The Cowgirls will be reloading this year with two — senior Alison Smegal and junior Katja Woel — returning from a squad that finished fifth at the SLC meet.
